Prague
There’s something magical about Prague; The old buildings from so many different eras, built in these incredibly vibrant colours; The river slowly gliding by, and the trams rolling through the streets.
The Czech Republic was not bombed during the Second World War, as so many other countries in Europe were. So Prague has many old, historic buildings on display today.
The Charles Bridge, which was built in the 15th century, was the first bridge across the Vltava river and for many years, it was to only bridge.
Today, there are 17 bridges across Vltava. The Charles Bridge connects the old Prague and its cobble stone streets and colourful houses with the new and more modern Prague on the opposite river bank.
The Charles Bridge, which is a bit of a tourist trap, has many statues along the edge. An ancient tale goes that a newly married will have fortune, if the touch a certain statue on the bridge. A modern saying explains which statue to touch, when you want a divorce and to come out with money.
Extraordinary experiences
An absolute must see in Prague is the Church of Our Lady before Týn and the Astronomical Clock on Staromestske Nam square. A walk through the old town up to the castle and a river cruise on Vltava are also interesting.
However, if you want to experience something a little less touristy, you should get tickets for the Krizik Fountain, the dancing fountain. A show is 1 hour, and professional dancers perform to classical music while the fountain is lid up and the water elevates and lowers. It is hard to describe, you just have to experience it.
Prague also has a singing fountain, which is not quite as spectacular as the Krizik Fountain.
Prague has a TV Tower, which is also a viewpoint of the city from different levels, and it is mind-blowing to be up there looking down at the tiny houses.
In Petrin Gardens is Stefanik Observatory which has a telescope pointed at the sun. If you are lucky, you might be offered a look at the sun. I saw a few solar flares, when I looked. It was so surreal, but also very awesome.
