Alpati AlpacaPark

Invited on an Alpaca-Walk

Ad – For a few years now, I have been obsessed with alpacas. The cuddly creatures are very fascinating. On my bucket list is an alpaca walk.

This wish was granted when I went on a 1 ½ hour Alpaca-Walk with Alpati AlpacaPark.

Information about Alpati AlpacaPark

Alpati AlpacaPark is found at Bukkerupvej 100, 4340 Tølløse, on the island of Zealand in Denmark.

The park is run by married couple Rasmus and Katja Piil and they have 23 alpacas in the park.

Facts about alpacas

  • Alpacas produce wool but they do not shed naturally, like camels do. Alpacas need shearing every Spring so they can grow new wool to keep warm during winter
  • Alpacas are herd animals and can be kept as livestock, but if you only have 1 it will become depressed. They need to belong to a herd and 3 alpaca are a great number for a pet herd
  • A alpacas instinct is to flee, not fight. It is very curious and observing but it does not like to be petted. It only has teeth on the bottom jaw because it is a herbivore
  • Do you know what an alpacas calling sounds like? Listen to the video below.

Experiences at Alpati AlpacaPark

Alpati AlpacaPark is all about sustainability, hence why the alpaca-wool is sold in the farm shop.

The alpacas produce fertilizer which is used to grow carrots. These are sold from the farm shop to be fed to the alpacas during visits. The fertilizer is also for sale.

Some alpacas are used for therapy, e.g. visiting elderly homes.

It is possible to book a visit to the Park and spend a day with feeding the alpaca herd.

A brand new experience is sleeping in a shelter on the pasture where the alpaca herd grazes.

The Alpaca-Walk experience

Katja Piil was host to the walk and she brought 3 alpacas: Frida, Lea and Elvira.

Katja Piil is an alpaca trainer and she started off with some general information about alpacas and their behavior and how we humans should act on the walk through the forest.

When Katja talks about alpacas her passion for this animal shines through. It is very interesting to listen to her talk.

It was such a pleasant experience walking the alpaca through the forest. Alpacas are naturally very curious and all of them walked really well. It is an activity where you recharge and settle into a lower gear. You are just present in the woods with these furry creatures who act like they are experiencing the forest for the very first time. Even though, they have been on that same path many times before.

I am absolutely thrilled I got to experience this and tick off on my bucket list. It was a unique experience, which left me calm, centered and completely relaxed. It was a nice break from a sometimes very hectic everyday life.

It is a great family activity for those looking to spend time outside and seeking unique experiences.

Children have to be 9 years old to take part, and children under 12 years old will share an alpaca with an adult. A walk can include up to 10 people and 5 alpacas, and it is 1 ½ hours.
Dogs are not welcome, as dogs make the alpaca nervous.

Although the alpacas were snacking through out the entire walk through the forrest, a walk always ends with a snack in the pasture.

I did not bring carrots, unfortunately. But Frida loved my green apples.
